Beard Grooming Instructions

Here at The Modern Chap, we understand that not all of you have sported a beard since puberty hit.

Whether you’re a seasoned beard veteran or a fresh-faced novice taking your first steps into the world of facial greatness, we’ve got your back.

Our products are designed to elevate every man’s grooming game, from the five o’clock shadow to the full-blown Viking. So gather around, gentlemen, and let us guide you through the art of beard mastery.

The key to a well-groomed, healthy beard is to start with the lightest product first and build up to the heavier, styling products. The recommended order is:

  1. Beard Oil
  2. Beard Balm
  3. Beard Butter

Here’s why this order works best:

Beard Oil

  • Beard oil is the foundational step, designed to nourish and condition the beard hair and skin underneath.
  • It absorbs quickly to moisturize and tame unruly hairs without weighing down the beard.
  • Start with 3-4 drops, depending on your beard length, work it through the beard from roots to ends.
  • Allows you to style more easily and sets the stage for the other products.

Beard Balm

  • Beard balm provides light hold and further conditioning after the oil.
  • The balm helps train and shape the beard hairs, keeping them in place.
  • Apply a small amount, starting at the neck and working up, using a boar bristle brush to distribute evenly.
  • Balm adds a light sheen and tames flyaways.

Beard Butter

  • Beard butter is the heaviest of the three, offering intense hydration and a stronger hold.
  • It deeply moisturizes the beard and skin, preventing itchiness and flakiness.
  • Scoop a small amount and work it through the beard from roots to ends.
  • Provides the most control for sculpting and shaping your desired beard style.

Following this order – oil first, then balm, then butter – ensures your beard gets the nourishment it needs before adding styling products. This routine will leave your facial hair soft, healthy and perfectly groomed.

Cleanse

  • Wash your beard thoroughly with your preferred beard soap

  • Use in combination with our beard oil for maximum hydration and control
